LED Lighting Tips: Constant Voltage vs Constant Current

Everybody want works on LED lighting system should know the difference between the two different types of LED drive systems available on the market. Most of all products sold by www.ecosung.com are Constant Voltage type  Below is a brief instruction of the two types of LED driving systems.

    Constant Voltage

Most of all products, like LED module, LED strip, LED linear light, sold by www.ecosung.com are Constant Voltage type. Constant Voltage means that the DC Voltage connect to the product must stay on a fix value. Constant voltage will maintain constant voltage regardless of total power of LED connected. It also means that all components of the system must be Constant Voltage type. 12VDC Constant Voltage are most pupular system, all the product must always be powered at 12VDC. For example, powering a 12VDC Constant Voltage product with a 6VDC power supply would not power the connected Constant Voltage product at half brightness.Iit would damage the connected LED due to the fact that it is not receiving the required 12VDC it needs to operate. If you would like to dim Constant Voltage LED you must do it through a PWM Dimmer, not only decrease the DC Voltage input.

    Constant Current

Constant Current type products will vary the voltage to maintain constant current regardless of load impedance.  It is important to know what type of product you are using when buying from different distributors as Constant Current product is not meant to be used with Constant Voltage Product.  Unlike the cheap LED modules on the market,we use constant current technology in our LED modules to keep the current stable and make the LEDs life longer. (But the whole LED modules still be constant voltage product for max compatible with 12v power supplies)
